Athletic: Chelsea want a head coach who does not dictate strategy or make demands
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The latest reports and news about the future of Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea has all been coming out across the last 24 hours, and the situations around it all is just crazy really.

Everyone is having their say, and Chelsea fans are getting their opinions out there across multiple platforms as well. But the fact is, it looks like Chelsea could well part ways with the current head coach, although nothing seems to have been decided at the time of writing this and anything can still happen.

Chelsea fans largely turned on Pochettino just some weeks back and many had wanted him sacked for the largest part of this season. But opinions towards him seemed to have turned a lot in recent weeks after a run of five wins in a row to see the club finish 6th in the Premier League this season and manage to qualify for Europe after all.

But the issues appear to be over how much power Pochettino wants, and he appears to be unhappy with not getting a say in transfers.

Updates from The Athletic

Pochettino struck a collaborative tone after Chelsea’s win over Bournemouth when asked how much influence he will have over summer incomings and outgoings.

“That is a club decision,” he said. “Of course, like I was from the beginning, we are going to be there to help if they want and we are going to do our job.”

The Athletic have a big piece out on it all this week. They claim Chelsea want a head coach who will do exactly that: feed into the conversation around potential signings and sales without seeking to dictate strategy or make demands, and commit to working with the talent assembled by the recruitment team.

But that is not the tone Pochettino has always favoured this season.
